A warm drink recipe for the cold winter days

For a tasty, warm beverage that’s perfect for winter weather, try this simple recipe for a maple black tea latte. It’s a great drink for relaxing mornings or for those evenings of studying when you don’t want the caffeine of coffee, but still need a little pick-me-up. Though it can vary by type, black tea has about half the caffeine content as brewed coffee.

This recipe is also incredibly versatile. You can switch up the flavor of tea or use a different type of milk to get some variety.

1. Place two bags of maple espresso black tea into your favorite mug, and pour in just enough boiling water to cover both tea bags. Let steep for eight minutes for maximum flavor, then remove and discard the tea bags. Leaving them in too long can make your drink too bitter.

2. Heat about ¾ cup of your favorite milk (I like to use a coconut milk beverage). If you have an electric milk steamer, this will give you great results, but using the stovetop or microwave will work, too. Pour into the mug of tea and stir to mix.

3. Sweeten to taste. I like to use about a tablespoon of orange blossom honey from my favorite farmer’s market in Lakeland, Florida, but any type of sweetener will work: honey, sugar, agave or an artificial sweetener. Just start with a little at first and add more if you like.

4. For an extra treat, top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of brown sugar. Enjoy!
